Christmas in September Put Holiday Shopping on Friendswood’s Calendar
The city advertised a two-day arts and crafts market for September 11–12, pairing an early start on holiday gifts with shopping at the Friendswood Activity Building.
December was still months away, but Friendswood’s September calendar already had a place for holiday shopping. The city promoted its Christmas in September Arts & Crafts Market for Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12.
The city’s September–October Senior Citizen Program newsletter identified the venue as the Friendswood Activity Building, 416 Morningside Drive, and advertised more than 35 vendors.

Gifts, crafts and an early shopping window
The city’s event page promoted crafts, jewelry, candles and toys, along with on-site food trucks. The newsletter expanded the advertised selection to include clothing, home decor and holiday gifts.
The schedule gave residents a Friday shopping window and a second opportunity on Saturday. The dedicated event page listed a 4 p.m. Saturday closing time, one hour earlier than Friday.
Food service had its own advertised schedule. The event flyer in the newsletter listed food vendors on-site from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day—a shorter window than the market’s overall shopping hours.
A change to the Activity Building’s usual Friday
The market also appeared in the newsletter’s facility and service notices. For September 11, the city listed no regular daily activities or programs, no fitness-room access and no senior bus service. Regular hot meals were also listed as unavailable that day.
Those notices were separate from the market’s public shopping hours: they described changes to the building’s normal senior-program schedule.
