FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Mustangs take one of the strongest starts in the Houston area on the road Friday night, traveling to South Houston with a perfect 4-0 record and an offense that has averaged more than 60 points per game.
Friendswood faces the South Houston Trojans on Friday, September 25, at 7 p.m. in a district matchup. The Mustangs enter the game 2-0 in district play. South Houston is 1-3 overall and 0-2 in district competition.

Friendswood has dominated the opening month
The numbers through four games tell the story clearly.
Friendswood has scored 242 points while allowing only 24, an average score of roughly 60-6.
The Mustangs opened the season with a 31-6 victory over Texas City before producing three consecutive games in which the offense reached at least 60 points.
Friendswood defeated Clear Brook 71-11, opened district play with a 60-7 road victory over Victoria East, and then returned home last Friday for an 80-0 win against Fort Bend Dulles.
That gives Friendswood three consecutive district and non-district victories by at least 53 points.
An 80-point statement against Dulles
The latest result was also the most decisive.
Friendswood defeated Fort Bend Dulles 80-0 on September 18, keeping the Vikings off the scoreboard while producing the Mustangs' largest offensive total of the young season.
The victory moved Friendswood to 4-0 and kept the Mustangs unbeaten through their first two district games.
It followed another dominant district performance against Victoria East, meaning Friendswood has outscored its first two district opponents by a combined 140-7.
South Houston looking to respond
South Houston enters Friday's matchup from the opposite direction.
The Trojans opened the season with a 43-27 win over Sharpstown but have since lost three consecutive games.
South Houston fell 27-21 against North Forest before opening district play with a 49-0 loss to Freeman.
Last week, Angleton defeated the Trojans 72-7, dropping South Houston to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the district.
Despite those results, South Houston has shown an ability to run the football. Published team statistics list sophomore running back Anthony Thomas at more than 200 rushing yards per game, making the Trojans' ground attack one area for Friendswood to contain.
A chance to strengthen the district start
The early district standings make Friday important even with plenty of football still to play.
Friendswood enters the week 2-0 in district and listed second in the standings, giving the Mustangs an opportunity to reach 3-0 before returning home for what should be a more significant test against Iowa Colony on October 2.
The remainder of Friendswood's district schedule also includes Pasadena, Freeman, Angleton and Randle.
The objective this week is therefore fairly straightforward: avoid looking past an opponent that has struggled recently, handle business on the road and preserve the momentum built during an extraordinary opening month.
Defense has been just as impressive
The offensive scores naturally attract attention, but Friendswood's defensive performance may be just as notable.
No opponent has scored more than 11 points against the Mustangs this season.
Texas City scored six, Clear Brook scored 11, Victoria East scored seven and Dulles was shut out.
That is only 24 points allowed across four games.
When an offense scoring more than 60 points per game is paired with a defense allowing roughly six, the result has been very little fourth-quarter uncertainty so far this season.
The road ahead gets more interesting
Friday begins a stretch that should provide a clearer picture of Friendswood's position in the district race.
After South Houston, the Mustangs return home to face Iowa Colony on October 2. They then travel to Pasadena on October 8 before hosting Freeman on October 16.
A road game at Angleton follows October 23, and Friendswood closes the regular-season schedule at home against Randle on November 6.
For now, however, the focus is South Houston.
Friendswood has done virtually everything it could have asked through four games: win at home, win on the road, start district play unbeaten, produce explosive offense and keep opponents out of the end zone.
Friday night gives the Mustangs their next opportunity to keep that start intact.
