The Challenger continued west on FM 528 as Friendswood officers positioned themselves farther along the roadway.

Friendswood officers positioned stop sticks
As the pursuit moved west through Friendswood, local officers set up stop sticks near the intersection of West Parkwood and Whitaker.
Stop sticks are tire-deflation devices used by law enforcement in an attempt to safely disable a fleeing vehicle.
Police reported that as the Dodge Challenger approached the area, the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Whitaker.
The vehicle lost control during the turn and crashed into a ditch.
Three people detained
Friendswood officers detained three males following the crash.
According to the police activity summary, Harris County Precinct 8 deputies subsequently arrived and took custody of the three individuals.
The Friendswood report does not identify the three males or specify what charges, if any, were filed against them as a result of the pursuit.
It also does not explain why Precinct 8 deputies originally attempted to stop the vehicle.
A late-night pursuit through a major corridor
FM 528 is one of Friendswood's principal east-west roads and carries traffic through commercial and residential areas before reaching the West Parkwood and Whitaker area.
Although the pursuit occurred shortly after midnight, vehicle pursuits on major local roadways can create risks not only for officers and the occupants of the fleeing vehicle but also for other motorists.
Friendswood's role in Sunday's incident appears to have been primarily assisting the agency already conducting the pursuit and attempting to stop the vehicle once it entered the city.
Police reports remain preliminary
The Friendswood Police Department publishes regular activity summaries to provide residents with information about reported crimes, arrests, traffic incidents and other police activity.
The department cautions that those summaries contain preliminary information and that classifications can change as investigations continue.
That distinction is particularly important in this case because the pursuit originated with another law-enforcement agency.
Any additional information about the reason for the pursuit, identities of those detained or potential charges would likely come from the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office or subsequent court records.
No additional details yet released
As of Wednesday morning, Talk of Friendswood had not located a separate public release from Precinct 8 providing additional details about the incident.
For that reason, this report does not identify the occupants or speculate about the circumstances that prompted deputies to initiate the pursuit.
What the local police activity record does establish is that a pursuit entered Friendswood in the early hours of September 20, local officers attempted to disable the fleeing vehicle, and the incident ended when the Challenger crashed near Whitaker Drive.
Three males were then detained and transferred into the custody of the agency that had been pursuing the vehicle.
